My steadiness is the intervention.
Use it when
- Somebody you love is having a hard time and you keep making it about fixing it
- You want to help and you have never asked them what help means
- You arrive with more urgency than they have and it lands badly
- You start talking because the silence feels like doing nothing
The steps
- Regulate yourself first. Body Reset and Now Protocol before you approach.
- Ask before acting — "do you want me to listen, to help with something specific, or just to be here?"
- Match the energy level first, then gradually reduce it. Don't arrive with high-urgency energy.
- Use minimal words. Presence is more effective than explanation during peak dysregulation.
- Offer one concrete option — "do you want water, a walk, or just to sit together?"
- Do not solve. Do not advise. Do not reassure prematurely. Witness first.
- Check back in after — "how are you doing now? Is there anything you need?"
What to expect
They may want none of the three, and asking is still the step. You are not there to solve it, and presence lands further than explanation while somebody is still outside their window.
If this isn't the one
- They are not safe → The Crisis Response Sequence
- It went past dysregulation into a scene → The Dysregulation Response Sequence
- You are depleted from doing this often → The Baseline Reset
Where it comes from

- Promising
Prefer it one step at a time? The same protocol as a guided runner in the app, which also keeps a private record if you want one.
This is one of the tools a seventeen-session series teaches, ninety minutes at a time, in a room of six to twelve people. It is peer-facilitated, free to host, and every handout and worksheet it uses is free to take.
Where this one comes from
You have just run one protocol. Behind it is one idea: everything you do is paid for out of a single account, and almost nothing is charged at the moment you do it — which is why the fifth repetition is worse than five times the first, and why a bad night does not present its bill until the following afternoon. Shoulder the Bill is that argument as one continuous read, written out of a workplace injury and the four years afterwards. The manual is the one you open at a page. The Workbook is the one you write in.
three books, one system →Check what stayed 3 questions
Answer in your own words, out loud or on paper. Nothing is scored, nothing is marked, and nothing is stored — this is for noticing what you have, not for anybody to grade.
Somebody in the room has lost control of their state, and you have not. What situation is this sequence written for?
What is the first step, and which two tools does it use?
What the material says
Regulate yourself first. Body Reset and Now Protocol before you approach.
There is a step that is entirely made of things not to do. What are they, and what do you do instead?
What the material says
Do not solve. Do not advise. Do not reassure prematurely. Witness first.
