The Thought Reset

A thought is information, not a command.

The steps

  1. Write the thought down.
  2. Name the pattern.
  3. Ask: fact, fear, or guess?
  4. Generate the accurate version.
  5. Take one action.
  6. Return to Now. Close the Loop.

Where it comes from

Prefer it one step at a time? The same protocol as a guided runner in the app, which also keeps a private record if you want one.

This is one of the tools a seventeen-session series teaches, ninety minutes at a time, in a room of six to twelve people. It is peer-facilitated and free to host.

Check what stayed 3 questions

Answer in your own words, out loud or on paper. Nothing is scored, nothing is marked, and nothing is stored — this is for noticing what you have, not for anybody to grade.

  1. What is the critical question this protocol asks about a thought?

    What the material says

    Ask: fact, fear, or guess?

  2. Once a thought has been sorted and found to be a fear or a guess, what do you produce before acting?

    What the material says

    Generate the accurate version.

  3. What is the anchor phrase, and what does it say a thought is not?

    What the material says

A thought is information, not a command.
